I guess my first experience with StumbleUpon was checking my weblogs one day and seeing three thousand hits on a fairly innocuous blog post of mine called BBC Iplayer France, discussing how I was able to access Iplayer from Paris. StumbleUpon is a social media site that has been around for a long time now; as the name suggests it helps people "stumble upon" new and interesting things on the web. There is a ton of people who regularly visit that site, and for the web business man or woman that means opportunity. Just like any other site online, you have to approach this site with a little bit of knowledge and patience. Perhaps you may be wondering how you can take advantage of this opportunity?

You should develop your own writing style and make your shares concise and informative. You can possibly hurt or help yourself depending on what you say and how you say it. You will find that clear and unambiguous descriptions will be appreciated very much. You want to get the right kind of attention, and that is only possible when other users follow your links. The worst thing you can do is make people feel like you have wasted their time, so avoid doing that. One way to sort of stay below the radar is to have a healthy number of shares, or stumbles, to sites that do not belong to you. It's alright to submit links from your website, but don't overdo it. Maintain a healthy ratio and show the other users that you're not here only for promotion, but your main goal is to actually share useful content that others would find interesting. So this is not anything hard to understand, and it's merely a matter of following the marketing rules there. If you are always sincere with your efforts, then people will accept you for it. This is all about relationship marketing in its purest form, and so that should tell you what you need to do. One good way to look at this is it's a strategic plan that requires an investment of your time and effort. So it is really very easy because you play the social game at a social media community.

You can see massive success there, but it is just that it takes some time to make happen. As long as you know what you're doing, and you avoid hurrying then you can make some profits. Your time and effort will be wasted if you think you can go around the way things are set-up at StumbleUpon.

So just prepare yourself to take it slow and expect to see your particular results in a little time - but it's not terrible, either. If you actively help the community, the occasional promotional post to your best lawn mower website will be better received and accepted.
Social media websites are wonderful for getting visitors to your website.
But, when you speak about StumbleUpon, the traffic is not only highly targeted, but the people that come to your site really want to see what you are offering. There are thousands of people who surf with StumbleUpon. So just think about how many people you could reach if you made the effort and put the site to good use. But again, it boils down to how well you take action. This is because if you do not make any effort, you truly will not see any results.

Right there is the secret. "Make the effort and put the site to good use"

StumleUpon can be the best source of traffic to any site but little things like filling out your profile and stumbling yourself can make a BIG difference with your own efforts to get some serious traffic to your own sites.

Good post! This applies to any social bookmarking sites. I know that there was one site which started shutting down accounts because all they did was promote their own links. Basically abusing it for SEO purposes.

Another great site to use to drive traffic to your publications. Useful when you in-cooperate it with the other social sites.

This is an awesome article. Not many people know about or care about StumbleUpon because they don't understand the potential it has to offer.... However, It's a really cool website, And has alot of cool sites being shown. Many of the sites you won't even see unless you stumbleupon them somehow someway outside of the site. I have found sites that are totally awesome that I've never seen before, Anywhere, until I started going to StumbleUpon. If you are not using this site in my opinion, you are missing the boat. So "Check It Out". :)

Good article, thanks.

It is easy to overlook quality sources of gaining traffic, especially for the inexperienced or new to using the social media outlets available.

StumbleUpon is a fun, interesting site I have used mostly for relaxation, hadn't even considered its potential for steering traffic.
