Clearing your Cache and other Temporary Files

Sometimes you'll be asked to clear your temporary internet files or your cache if you are having a problem. Or you might be running low on disk space or your computer is just running slow. The best solution I have for you is CCleaner [freeware]!

Basically what it does is cleans all the temporary files off your computer. This includes cookies, history, auto complete forms, windows temp files, and temp files generated by a bunch of other programs too.

I use Firefox to browse, so my settings on CCleaner have everything checked off on the Windows side, and under Applications I have everything but the Cookies and Saved Form Information under Firefox. You can customize it the way you want to, so if you prefer having cookies remember you are logged in, that's fine too. There is also a registry cleaner which can help speed things up!

Manually Hard Refreshing a Page

If you need to clear your cache because of an error page, try pressing CTRL + F5. This will do a refresh, but it'll make sure to get a fresh copy of the page. This can be a quick fix, but isn't always the solution.

Manually Clearing Firefox's Cache

If you don't want to have CCleaner do it, or just want to do it quickly, goto Tools -> Clear Private Data (or press Shift + Ctrl + Del). Then make sure cache is checked (and the others aren't unless you want those cleared too, which if you are having login problems you might want to check off cookies too). Then hit OK!

Manually Clearing Internet Explorer's Cache (version 7)

Goto Tools -> Delete Browsing History. Then click Delete Files next to Temporary Internet Files. Repeat for cookies if necessary.
